Once you meet Tannis for the first time, you'll always remember her super infectious personality. She's got a smile that automatically makes you smile. She's always laughing, or making you laugh. She's a complete dream. So when she messaged me about wanting to have an awesome accent wall down at the studio, my imagination ran wild, and I automatically started flipping through the idea catalogue in my brain. Keeping with the overall feel of the studio, this accent wall would have to be the perfect combo of girly and romantic, but like Tannis.. completely fun.
So, I nervously messaged her back, assuming she would think I was insane for wanting to cover her entire ceiling and a wall in stripes. And, to my surprise, she absolutely loved it. Oh, sweet relief! As some of you may know, it's not always the easiest thing in the world to try and explain to someone your vision. And so, yesterday morning, Spencer and I hopped in the car and made the drive out to Langley ( it was a gorgeous drive too, the weather has been dreamy! )

What you need :
- Painters Tape
- one of those handy dandy Chalk line toolsmakers
( i seriously don't know what they're called )
- Paint
we used a pretty, glossy pink called Pink Chiffon
- Rollers
- Brushes
- Measuring Tape
- Pencil
- Loads of patience
1. First things first, you're going to need to measure your wall. We had already decided that we wanted to have an odd number of the glossy pink stripes, so once we had our wall measurement, we divided it by odd numbers. This will help you determine how thick you're going to do your stripes. We didn't want to do the stripes too skinny, because it would make the room feel super busy.. and a stripe that was too thick wouldn't look right either. We ended up with 9 inch stripes.
2. After marking every 9 inches on the wall for the stripes, we took our chalk string and snapped a perfectly straight line. Repeat for the ceiling, marking every 9 inches on each side, and then snapping a chalk line. This will definitely be easier with two people, one on each side of the room.
3. Tape, tape, tape. When taping your lines, you'll end up with a funky pattern. Skinny stripe, fat stripe. Remember, to stick the tape down tightly, and smoothly to avoid any leaking.

yes, making a concentrated/pouty face makes things easier.

4. Start painting! And remember, you're only painting every other stripe ( in our case, we painted the fat stripe! ) We did two coats. Let your paint dry, and try not to go crazy waiting to rip the tape off.

Spence coloured in a Spider Man colouring book to pass time.

5. Rip off all your tape, wipe clean any chalk that remains. Touch up any leaked areas, and any chalk that's being stubborn.
6. Stare at your amazing accent wall and ceiling. Seriously. Your neck may hurt, but isn't is so worth it??

And just like that, the accent wall and ceiling are done. Aside from a few minor touch ups, I'm pretty sure I'm madly in love with this feature! Thank you to Tannis for not thinking I'm completely insane for wanting to do this, and thank you to my amazing husband for having the patience to help us figure out all the measurements! Next step, paint those beige walls a perfectly pale, almost white grey. Flooring ( which by the way, is flippen amazing ) mouldings, and then all the fun stuff! I'll keep you all posted!! I'm majorly excited for this place to come together!
Oh, and in other news? Spencer and I finally picked our floor and ordered it. Have any of you every attempted to redo your laminate flooring before? I've done tiling, but never laminate.. so I'm a tad nervous. If you've got any advice, tips or tricks, pretty pretty please send them my way!!
Happy Wednesday!! xxo
